Most recently was seen online "joyously proclaiming that ev'ry valley shall be exalted" (NY times) in Against the Grain's Messiah/Complex.
In the 2020/21 season Spencer will join the International Opera Studio at Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin. Performances include roles in Ariadne auf Naxos, Rigoletto, La Traviata, and La fanciulla del west. He also joined Neue Stimmen for their Masterclass series which moved to an online format at the end of October.
Highlights from his 2019-2020 season, include Triquet in Eugene Onegin at Opéra de Montréal where he was praised for his "clear and powerful voice" (Bachtrack) and his ability to portray "a mannered French aristocrat, hilarious stereotype whom [Spencer] embodied with genius." Combining his love for classical music and dance, made his first ever Carmina Burana with Les Grands Ballet a major highlight. Spencer also competed in the final rounds of the Neue Stimmen International Voice Competition in Gütersloh, Germany, and debuted in Versailles , France as Léon in The Ghosts of Versailles at (The Royal Opera of Versailles.)
Spencer has been a winner/recipient of The Jacqueline Desmarais Foundation For Young Canadian Opera Singers, The Vancouver Opera Guild Career Development Grant, The Vancouver Opera Chorus Endowment Career Development Grant, and The Joseph and Melitta Kandler Scholarship.
