On the operatic stage, Tanya’s favorite roles performed include Dorabella in Così fan tutte; Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni and Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro, both performed in Germany; Mrs. Grose in The Turn of the Screw, as one of the Trio in Leonard Bernstein’s Trouble in Tahiti, and Andromeda in the world premiere of A Fire in Water at the Capital Fringe Festival in Washington, D.C.. An avid advocate of new music, Tanya has often sung as a featured soloist in world and regional premieres: Michael Oberhauser’s opera Lear, Josh Perry-Parrish’s symphonic cantata All This the World Well Knows, and in several performances of David Lang’s Pulitzer prize-winning piece The Little Match Girl Passion across the D.C. region. She has also performed with the District New Music Coalition and on the University of Maryland’s new music concert series, TEMPO. A consummate musician, Tanya earned her Colleague Certification from the American Guild of Organists in 2018 and her Graduate Diploma in Church Music from Shenandoah University in 2019. She currently serves as Director of Music and Worship Arts and Organist at Chevy Chase United Methodist Church, where she directs the Sanctuary Choir. Tanya holds Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in voice from the University of Maryland, where she studied with soprano Carmen Balthrop. She also holds a minor in piano performance and continued to play cello with her string quartet during her time at UMD. Tanya lives in Virginia with her husband, pianist Michael Langlois, with whom she frequently appears in recital.
