Biography

John Paul Jennings

Hailing from Southern California, John Paul Jennings is fast emerging as a young conductor of note. He has conducted, among others, the North Czech Philharmonic, Fort Wayne Philharmonic, and Oberlin Opera Theatre, and held the position of Cover Conductor with the Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra. Most recently, he has worked as an assistant conductor with the Orion Orchestra at English National Opera and with the Royal College of Music Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Jennings is currently completing a Master of Performance in Conducting at the Royal College of Music, where he holds the Robert Anderson Trust Special Award. He has been fortunate to have been taught at the RCM by Sir Roger Norrington, Sir Antonio Pappano, Jac van Steen, Martyn Brabbins, Toby Purser, Peter Stark, and Howard Williams. Prior to this, he studied Conducting at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, under the tutelage of Hynek Farkač. He frequently coaches singers in preparing their operatic roles, and comfortably works in English, French, German, Italian, and Czech. While completing his Bachelors at Oberlin Conservatory, Mr. Jennings founded the Oberlin Mozart Players, a student-led orchestra which gave concerts ranging from a complete performance of Haydn's "The Creation" to the World Premiere of Rosśa Crean's chamber opera, "Lost Daughters." The orchestra's achievements earned them a two-page feature in Oberlin's 2015 summer magazine. Off the podium, Mr. Jennings indulges in his passions for fitness, cooking Asian cuisine, and learning languages.
