Biography

Lauren Yokabaskas

Most recently, soprano Lauren Yokabaskas was named the first place winner of the Lyra New York International Mozart Vocal Competition, further emerging as a dynamic interpreter of his iconic leading ladies. In the 2019 season, she sang the role of Mimì in La bohème with Portland Opera for their northwest regional tour, and joined The Chautauqua Opera Company as Roxanne Conti in ¡Figaro! (90210), Rosina in The Ghosts of Versailles and debuting a world premiere composition for soprano and orchestra by Composer- in-Residence, Gilda Lyons, “When I’m Away from You, I Feel Like the Second-Place Winner in a Bee-Wearing Contest” commissioned by The American Opera Project. Ms. Yokabaskas is a first place winner of the New York Lyric Opera Theatre National Vocal Competition at Carneige Hall, a former finalist for The American Prize: Schorr Memorial Award in Vocal Performance, a semi-finalist for the Mary Jacobs Smith Singer of the Year Competition with Shreveport Opera, and one of ten national finalists in the National Opera Association Carolyn Bailey and Dominick Argento Vocal Competition. In prior seasons, she made her professional New York City debut as Rosario in the rarely performed Goyescas with Bare Opera. Other past favorites include Contessa Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro, the title role in Vanessa, and Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus. Ms. Yokabaskas holds a Professional Studies Diploma and Master of Music in Voice from Mannes: The New School for Music, and a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance and Opera Studies from Purchase College, SUNY.
