Praised for her “voice that instantly engages the listener: shining, free and lustrous” (Seen and Heard International), Polish-American soprano Magdalena Kuźma is promptly establishing a name for herself in both concert and operatic repertoire. Kuźma recently placed third and won Audience Favorite in the 2021 National Opera Association Competition. This season includes her Merola Opera debut covering Susanna & performing Barbarina in Le Nozze di Figaro. In 2019, Magdalena portrayed Lila in the West Coast premiere of Jennifer Higdon's Cold Mountain at Music Academy of the West. That year she was honored with The Margot Bos Stambler '84 Professional Development Award provided to “an outstanding Oberlin Conservatory voice major of great promise with support to enhance career opportunities.” Magdalena has also been honored with awards and grants from The George London Foundation and International Festival Foundation. Previous credits include Blanche in Dialogues des Carmélites and Anna in Die Sieben Todsünden at Oberlin Opera. Additional operatic roles include Giannetta in Donizetti’s L'elisir d’amour and Miles in Britten’s Turn of the Screw at Chautauqua Institution. In 2016, she made her European debut in Italy’s Teatro Petrarca performing Drusilla in Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea. She is a proud alumna of Renée Fleming’s SongStudio at Carnegie Hall, Houston Grand Opera's Young Artists Vocal Academy, & The Bach Institute in collaboration with Emmanuel Music. Magdalena holds degrees from Oberlin & Juilliard, and is currently pursuing a Master’s at Yale University.
